Yakan Cultural Village
Lamitan City, Basilan, BARMM
The Yakan people of Basilan are master weavers whose fabric β dense geometric patterns in vivid primary colors on a resist-dyed background β is widely regarded as the finest traditional weaving in Mindanao. The cultural village outside Lamitan City preserves traditional Yakan houses, demonstrates the weaving process on hand looms, and sells cloth direct from the weavers. The patterns are not decorative: each geometric form encodes the weaver's family lineage and ceremonial status in a visual language that has never been written down.
