UP Diliman and the Sunken Garden
Quezon City, NCR
The University of the Philippines Diliman campus — 493 hectares of acacia-lined avenues and modernist buildings planned under American colonial rule — contains at its heart a natural amphitheater called the Sunken Garden that functions as the campus's communal living room. On afternoons the field fills with frisbee games, student circles, and couples; on summer evenings the outdoor concerts and theater productions that have formed generations of Manila cultural memory are staged here. The campus is freely accessible and is effectively Metro Manila's largest park.
