Twin Lakes of Balinsasayao

Two crater lakes — Balinsasayao and Danao — sit side by side in the rainforest highlands above Valencia, connected by a narrow channel and surrounded by old-growth trees that shelter Philippine hornbills, pygmy flowerpeckers, and flying lemurs. The protected landscape is part of the Negros Island UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Kayaking on Balinsasayao's jade surface in early morning, with mist lifting off the forest canopy and hornbills calling overhead, is among the quietest profound experiences Visayas offers.
