Turtle Islands Wildlife Sanctuary
A cluster of six islands at the southern edge of Philippine territory, almost on the Malaysian border, constituting one of the most important green sea turtle nesting grounds in Southeast Asia. Tens of thousands of turtles return to the same beaches each year; the sanctuary is managed jointly by the Philippines and Malaysia and the monitoring programs here have contributed significantly to understanding turtle migration across the western Pacific. At peak nesting season the beach is a living river of ancient animals.
