The Ruins Talisay

Negros Occidental, Western Visayas

The Ruins is the hauntingly beautiful skeletal shell of a grand Italianate mansion built in the early 20th century by sugar baron Don Mariano Ledesma Lacson in memory of his Portuguese wife. Rather than let Japanese forces use it during World War II, Filipino guerrillas burned it down, leaving behind only the intricate concrete frame that now glows magnificently at sunset. Often called the "Taj Mahal of the Philippines," it stands as one of the most romantic and photographed landmarks in the Visayas.
