T'boli Weaving Village

The T'boli people of Lake Sebu produce t'nalak, a hand-woven abaca fabric dyed with natural pigments in geometric patterns said to come to master weavers in dreams. The weaving is done by women on backstrap looms; each textile takes months and encodes lineage, status, and cosmology in its geometry. Visiting the villages around Lake Sebu and watching the weavers work is one of the most quietly profound cultural experiences in the Philippines.
