Tacloban Public Market

Leyte's capital is defined by two facts: it was the epicenter of Typhoon Haiyan's catastrophic storm surge in 2013, and it has rebuilt with a ferocity that is, in person, humbling. The public market is the city's artery — stacked with the harvest of Leyte Gulf (fresh tuna, squid, blue crab) and the bounty of the Leyte interior (camote tops, pili nuts, jackfruit). The morning chaos of vendors and buyers is the best reminder that cities, and people, keep going.
