Sogod Bay Whale Shark Encounter
Padre Burgos, Southern Leyte, Eastern Visayas
The wide, deep bay of Sogod in southern Leyte hosts a regular aggregation of whale sharks from November to May, drawn by sardine blooms in the upwelling current. Unlike Oslob's controversial feeding operation, Sogod Bay encounters are wild and unbaited β the sharks drift through of their own accord and divers follow at respectful distance. The bay also offers some of the finest wall diving in the Philippines, with vertical drop-offs reaching 600 meters.
