A small island in the heart of the Sulu Archipelago surrounded by coral gardens that rival anything in the Visayas, with water clarity driven by the powerful tidal exchange between the Sulu and Celebes seas. The Sama-Bajau sea nomads who have fished these waters for generations maintain communities on stilts over the reef. Inter-island banca passages through the archipelago at dusk — vintas under sail against a crimson sky — are among the most visually arresting scenes in the Philippines.
