Paseo del Mar
Zamboanga City's waterfront promenade comes alive every afternoon as the light softens over the Basilan Strait and the brightly painted vintas rock at their moorings. Seafood stalls, merienda vendors, and small cafés line the esplanade; curacha (sea scorpion crab) cooked in Zamboangueño spices is the thing to order. The blend of Chavacano Spanish-Creole spoken at surrounding tables and the Muslim call to prayer drifting from the old city behind gives Paseo del Mar its distinct character — nowhere else in the Philippines sounds quite like this.
