Panampangan Island
Tawi-Tawi, BARMM
An elongated sandbar island that extends nearly four kilometers β the longest sandbar in the Philippines β in a crescent of white sand between two shades of blue ocean. The island has no permanent structures and no potable water; day-trips from Bongao arrive by banca and claim a section of empty white sand. The surrounding reef is extraordinarily healthy, and the sense of being at the edge of the known world is entirely accurate: the nearest land to the south is Sabah.
