Pagadian Floating Market

Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Peninsula

Every morning before sunrise, small wooden bancas converge on Pagadian Bay loaded with produce, dried fish, and native goods from the surrounding municipalities and nearby Mindanao islands. Vendors paddle between boats buying and selling; prices are negotiated in Subanen, Chavacano, and Cebuano simultaneously. The market disperses by 8 a.m. as goods move to the city's wet market onshore, so arrival before dawn is non-negotiable. It is one of the few genuine floating markets in the Philippines not staged for tourists.
