Naga Caves

Naga, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga Peninsula

A system of limestone caves in the municipality of Naga whose main chamber is large enough to hold several hundred people and whose interior formations β€” some of them 10 meters tall β€” have never been fully mapped. The caves serve as a nesting site for swiftlets whose edible nests are harvested annually by local climbers using bamboo poles. Outside the harvest season, the caves are silent except for the soft rush of an underground creek and the clicks of thousands of roosting bats.
