βHidden gem
Mt. Busa
Kiamba, Sarangani, SOCCSKSARGEN
A remote mountain rising to 2,064 meters in western Sarangani, protecting one of the last significant old-growth dipterocarp forests in the southern Philippines. Identified by BirdLife International as an Important Bird Area, its slopes hold endemic species including the Sarangani bleeding-heart pigeon. Access is genuinely difficult, which has kept the forest intact. The Blaan people whose ancestral domain this is use the mountain's biodiversity as an argument β so far successful β against mining encroachment.
