Mount Samat National Shrine

Pilar, Bataan

A 92-meter steel cross crowns the summit of Mount Samat, marking the site of some of the Pacific War's fiercest fighting and honoring the soldiers of the Bataan Death March. From the cross's observation deck—reached by elevator—the entire Bataan Peninsula, Manila Bay, and Corregidor Island spread across the horizon. History and landscape converge at exactly the same point.
