Macahambus Cave and Battle Gorge
Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental, Northern Mindanao
A narrow limestone gorge cut by the Cagayan River where, in 1900, Filipino guerrillas under Capitan Yumbing ambushed American soldiers in one of the Philippine-American War's most tactically dramatic engagements. The cave above the gorge overlooks a sheer drop to the river below; inside, low passages open into chambers where the guerrillas once sheltered. The site is a memorial park whose understated presentation lets the landscape speak.
