βHidden gem
Limasawa Island
Limasawa, Southern Leyte, Eastern Visayas
A tiny island at the southernmost tip of Southern Leyte where Ferdinand Magellan's expedition celebrated the first Catholic Mass in the Philippines on March 31, 1521 β the event that initiated five centuries of Christianity in the archipelago. A modest shrine and the Magallanes-Pigafetta marker stand at the likely site. The island has no hotels, no beach bars, no souvenir shops. Getting here is a project that rewards the committed.
