Lake Mahagnao

A volcanic maar lake surrounded by dense montane forest in the Burauen uplands of central Leyte. The lake sits inside a national park protecting one of Leyte's last significant old-growth forests, with pitcher plants, rare orchids, and Philippine deer documented in the buffer zone. The trail from the ranger station passes through bamboo groves and across a footbridge over a sulfur-scented creek — a reminder that the ground here is still volcanically active.
