Lake Lanao
Lanao del Sur, BARMM
The second largest lake in the Philippines sits at 702 meters on the volcanic Lanao Plateau, ringed by mosques and torogan houses of the Maranao people whose civilization has formed around its shores for centuries. The lake has no natural surface outlet β its waters flow underground to the Agus River, which powers over 50% of Mindanao's electricity through the Agus hydroelectric system. The view across the water toward Marawi at dusk, when the mosque lights come on, is unlike anything else in the country.
