Fort Nuestra Señora del Pilar de Zaragoza

Jolo, Sulu, BARMM

A coral-block Spanish colonial fort built in 1628 on the Jolo waterfront, one of the oldest surviving military fortifications in the Philippines. The fort witnessed the full arc of colonial history — from Tausūg resistance against the Spanish to the 1913 American bombardment in the last major battle of the Philippine-American War. Its battered walls still stand above Jolo Bay, a three-dimensional record of the Sulu Sultanate's centuries of resistance against successive foreign powers.
