Named after the great 19th-century chieftain who united the Maguindanao sultans against colonial expansion, Datu Piang preserves the material culture of the Maguindanao Sultanate — the most powerful Muslim polity in Mindanao's history. Old mosques, traditional vinta craft, and the royal cemetery of the Buayan Sultanate sit within reach of the town center. Local guides from the Maguindanao families who maintain these sites bring a dynastic history spanning six centuries to life.
