Chocolate Hills

More than 1,200 near-perfect conical hills spread across the interior of Bohol, covered in grass that turns chocolate brown in the dry season — giving the UNESCO Global Geopark site its irresistible name. The geological mystery of how these symmetrical mounds formed has never been fully settled: marine limestone dissolution, ancient coral reefs, or a karst process unique to this island. The main viewing deck at Carmen captures the hypnotic repetition of hill after hill dissolving into haze at the horizon.
