Cantilan Heritage Town

Cantilan, Surigao del Sur, CARAGA

A coastal municipality in Surigao del Sur with one of the best-preserved concentrations of Spanish-period architecture in CARAGA — a baroque stone church, a convento, and a row of 19th-century bahay na bato merchant houses along the plaza. The town remains largely intact because it has been largely bypassed by development; the plaza is the kind of unhurried place where nothing demands urgency and the heritage walk takes 30 minutes through a town that has changed very little in a century.
