Candaba Wetlands

Candaba, Pampanga

Each November to February, tens of thousands of migratory waterbirds—duck species, egrets, painted storks, and rarities—descend on the Candaba Swamp during their flight between Siberia and Southeast Asia. The flooded ricefields become a vast shallow marsh, and the birding is some of the finest in the Philippines, barely an hour from Manila. Largely unknown to non-birders, which is half the appeal.
