Cagsawa Ruins
Daraga, Albay, Bicol
The Cagsawa Ruins are the haunting remains of an 18th-century Franciscan church in Daraga, Albay, buried by the catastrophic 1814 eruption of Mayon Volcano that claimed around 1,200 lives. Only the bell tower survives above the lahar fields, creating one of the Philippines' most photographed scenes with Mayon Volcano looming perfectly in the background. The surrounding park is a popular picnic ground and photography spot best visited at sunrise for dramatic golden-hour shots.
