Butuan City Golden Heritage

Butuan City, Agusan del Norte, CARAGA

Butuan City holds one of the most significant archaeological records in Southeast Asia β€” gold artifacts, ceramic trade goods, and balangay boats (plank-built wooden watercraft dated to 320 AD) that are the oldest vessels excavated in the region. The National Museum branch in Libertad preserves the original excavation site, where balangay timbers rest in situ under a protective canopy. The gold objects β€” belts, ornaments, burial masks β€” establish Butuan as a major trading polity centuries before Spanish contact.
