Big Lagoon, El Nido
A cathedral of sheer limestone karst rising from impossible jade-green water, entered through a narrow opening in the cliff face by kayak or shallow-draft banca. The water inside is glassy, warm, and so clear that the sandy bottom is visible 8 meters down. The surrounding Bacuit Archipelago contains 45 islands in various configurations of lagoon, beach, and forest; Tour A, which circles the main islands including the Big Lagoon, remains one of the best-designed single days in Philippine travel.
