Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary

The second largest freshwater swamp in the Philippines — 14,000 hectares in Agusan del Sur — and one of the most biologically significant wetlands in Southeast Asia. The marsh supports Philippine crocodile (one of the world's most critically endangered reptiles), Philippine duck, and purple heron; the floating islands of matted vegetation that drift across its surface are unique in the Philippine archipelago. The Manobo communities who live on and around the marsh are its most effective protectors.
